Tips for Mail Delivery

Welcome to Mailmantips.com.  As a mailman, or letter carrier, I see the need daily for people to understand mail delivery from the postman's perspective, from proper mailbox selection, mailbox placement, dogs, yards, and other issues.  A little bit of knowledge from the mailman's perspective can help make your mailman or mailwoman's job much easier. 

Why should you help to make your mail carrier's job easier?  In addition to making the mailman's job easier, you will also help keep postage fees down.  None of us like postal rate increases.  Little things, like gated yards, yards the mailman cannot walk across, or mail slots, slow the mailman down, and therefore he/she cannot deliver as many houses.  This leads to hiring more mailmen, which leads to rate increases.  By changing how you receive your mail, you will be helping the postal service become more cost efficient.

House Numbers - It is amazing how many people don't number their houses, even though it is required by law.  Proper house numbers will ensure proper mail delivery.

Yards - Sometimes customers don't want the mailman walking on their lawn.  The post office loses millions of dollars every year due to carriers not walking across some lawns.
